How to Brush the Teeth

Good toothbrushing is an essential part for maintaining healthy teeth and gums. Toothbrushing with a medium bristle, small headed toothbrush and a small pea of fluoride toothpaste is the most effective method of brushing.

1. Start with the toothbrush at an angle of 45O to the teeth. The bristles should contact both the tooth surface and the gumline.

2. Gently brush the outer surfaces of the teeth using small circular motions. Move the brush to the next 2-3 teeth and repeat. Work slowly round the mouth in a systematic fashion overlapping each area keeping the bristles angled at 45O to the gumline. Repeat for the inside surfaces.

3.  Place the brush against the biting surfaces of the teeth and use a gentle back and forth scrubbing motion.

4. Tilt the brush vertically behind the front teeth. Make several small circular strokes using the front half of the brush.

Electric brushes are as effective as manual. Brush all the surfaces of the tooth while brushing and let it do the work. As with manual brushes, make sure you complete the whole mouth.
